Summer’s coming aka Chanel Resort 2011/2012

Guess which fashion event reminds me every year that summer is near? Yepp, it’s the presentation of Karl Lagerfelds annual Chanel Resort (Cruise) Collection, which was on, yesterday. This fashion show always takes place at some gorgeous yet for a fashion show uncommon spot at the Côte d’ Azur. For this year’s venue one of the most expensive and luxurious hotels worldwide was chosen– the Hôtel du Cap, overlooking the beautiful Cap d’Antibes. The show took place outdoors, in the Hotels’ grand gardens.

The collection consists of lots of black and white, floral prints and started with rows of first light yellow, then blue outfits. It features the usual Chanel characteristics, well mixed with summery looks, like bikinis worn with boucle jackets. For footwear Karl suggests white open toe sandal-boots.
One of the highlights of the show was Karl’s favourite Baptiste wearing a turban.
Topmodel Abbey Lee Kershaw opened the show and was joined by newcomers and model veterans like Natasha Poly, Lily Donaldson, Karolina Kurkowa and 54 year old Chanel muse Ines de la Fressagne. Only current Chanel face and good friend of Karl Lagerfeld, Freja Beha Erichsen didn’t show up.
This year’s make-up was held very natural, including even nude nails (Summer LE beige pétale on hands and jade rose on feet)  and somewhat undone hair.
At this occasion Karl presented his second short film, featuring his favourite models and friends like Freja and Baptiste

Among the guests were Princess Caroline of Hanover and her eleven year old daughter Princess Alexandra, as well as French singer and Johnny Depp - wife Vanessa Paradis and numerous American starlets like Blake Lively and Rachel Bilson.

To my non-professional eyes the collection is quite nice to look at and keeping up with the Chanel tradition, but not really groundbreaking. The shoes are not really my cup of tea, but I don't like the idea of open-toe boots in general. The natural make-up and hair on the other hand, I will take as an inspiration ;). But I really loved the show altoghether, given the beautiful surroundings and the great soundtrack (Painted Eyes by Hercules and Love Affair).
