Skye I: On the road to the Isles

So here’s the first part of pictures from my ultra-short trip last week. As always there are just soooo many pictures, so I decided to split them into two postings. The first part covers our journey to the Island. Btw my landlord had forced me into a little blog break because he decided to cut off my internet for a while… Then I had migraine, gosh, the never ending story of my migraine should get it’s own label here… But now I’m happy to be back online. After the spring anticipation last weekend it got freezingly cold again. Scottish girls went back from flip-flops to ballerinas *gg*. (no offence, that’s just the boring German speaking!!)

My friends and I decided to take the train to get to the Isle of Skye, which turned out to be the perfect decision. We took an early train to Glasgow and there changed to another one that was to bring us to the coast. Fist we passed by nearly frozen meadows behind Glasgow. Then the misty very northern end of Loch Lomond. Later up in the West Highlands we had the most amazing and impressive reflections in mountain lakes, that I have ever seen. The train stopped at the popular Highland destination Fort William and finally went on to take the famous “Road to the Isles” down to Mallaig at the coast. This last part of the route is where the train scenes in Harry Potter and many other movies (Germans: remember Charlie und Louise?) were shot. We also passed the Glenfinnan viaduct, which you can see in Harry Potter, and the train even stopped there for a moment. Finally, after more than 6 hours of a very pleasant train ride, we arrive in Mallaig, where the ferry to Skye leaves. Mallaig is just tiny, and in my opinion not even very picturesque (sorry!), but we found a place to have lunch outside in the sun, and it was even warm enough to take off the warm winter jackets. The ferry was leaving more than two hours after the train had got to Mallaig, so we had still enough time for a little walk around the harbour and we even spotted a seal in the waves.
