munich–info and insta

This weekend there’d be so much going on in Munich, if only the weather was with us!! It’s been cold and rainy for almost all week and the weekend seems not to be any better. Right now it’s sunny, though! And here are a few instagram impressions from last weekend, when it was still sunny…

rehearsal for one of the classical concerts at Odeonsplatz last weekend – Marienplatz with construction works – chandelier at Marstell Platz (wtf?)

Traditional Bavarian raft trip (incl lots of Beer and Music, the thing in the back is the toilet…) – pig who brought me luck :) – another raft

My highlight: “Oper für alle” (Opera for All) brings us a classical concert at Marstall Platz tonight, and the live video stream of Wagner’s Götterdämmerung (directed by Kent Nagano) from inside the opera to the square in front of it – both for free. Wagner tomorrow will also be streamed live on the internet. I’m rather up for the internet option, to be honest. Not feeling well and therefore 6 (!) hours in the cold don’t sound that tempting. Let’s see if I can do tonight’s concert, though. The concert starts at 8 pm, the opera tomorrow at 5 pm, more info and streaming details are here.

Tomorrow at 6 AM there’s also the “Kocherl Ball” at the Chinese Tower in the English Garden. It stems back from an old tradition and has become a trend event like the Oktoberfest, nowadays: In the past the household servants used to meet up and celebrate once a year. Since they had to be back at work in time, the event had to take place very early in the morning. More info can be found here, and they say that it’s going to take place, no matter what the weather’s like.

This weekend there’s also a DTM car race at the Olympic Stadium here in Munich. I’m not a fan of that kind of sport, but I’m totally fascinated by the fact that they’ve built a car racing track into a track-and-field stadium, never thought it was that big….
